Refurbishment of Dunston Village Hall

The building has been undergoing a phased programme of refurbishment, improving facilities whilst maintaining the wonderful retro character of the original building.

This August was the last major phase of the 5 year project leaving a few smaller projects for completion in the coming year.

September 2016 Update.

  • New notice boards have been fitted in the entrance hall.
  • All the wooden floors have been stripped, sanded and re-sealed.
  • All the walls, ceilings and skirting boards have been painted during August.
  • The Lamyman Room bar has been re-structered to provide a multi-use bar/servery area with a small fitted kitchen in the old cellar room behind. This has been redecorated and a slip resistant floor covering fitted.
  • The Main Hall kitchen has been replastered and redecorated, an expeller fitted and a new cooker installed.
  • The old Green Room/ Billiard Room has been divided to form two new rooms. One, a dedicated storage area for the Silver Sounds Brass Band instruments and uniforms, and the other providing a new home for the post office and a small meeting room.
  • New fire exit door fitted in the Main Hall.
  • New entrance door to the Lamyman Room has been fitted.
  • All the toilet facilities have been replaced with modern facilities and now have warm water and room heating.

November 2015- Update

Refurbishment plans have been delayed because of the extensive work by EON in connecting the existing electricity substations by laying new underground cables along Chapel Lane which have restricted access to the Village Hall throughout October. They will be continuing work in laying cables from Chapel Lane around Lincoln Road to Vicarage Lane and along to Back Lane where a new substation is to be installed.

During this time EON vehicles will be using part of the Village Hall grounds adjacent to the existing sustation but the entrance should be more negotiable for contractor vehicles from now on.

Work on refurbishing the Ladies Toilets in the Main Hall will start on the 21st December and should be finished by the end of the first week in January 2016.

September 2015 - Update

During August Pro-fit Windows installed triple A double glazed windows in the Kitchen, Green Room, Lamyman Room and to the rearof the building. This has been jointly funded by Dunston Parish Council and the Village Hall Management Committee. This should help improve the overall warmth of the building.

The first phase of the Toilets for All Project is nearly complete. The Disabled Toilet has been completely refitted, insulated and a water heater and expelair installed. A baby change unt has been fitted and this is now unisex disabled toilet & baby change facility. Both Gents toilets have had new sanitary ware installed with a new child sized urinal and wash basin and water heaters.

This has been funded by a grant from the Big Lottery Fund - Awards for All.

We plan to install new sanitaryware in the Ladies toilets later this year as the second phase of the Toilets for All Project.

Ready for Autumn/ Winter 2014

We have improved the heating in the Village Hall by installing cavity wall insulation and insulated the ceiling void in the Main Hall.

In the Main Hall, new energy efficient double glazed windows have been installed at the front of the building and there are 6 new electric radiators with thermostat and timer controls to make sure that the room is warm for users. The coin meters have been removed and the cost of heating is now included in the room hire fee.

Behind the scenes.

The Cleaner's Cupboard has been totally refitted.

Internal insulation has been fitted in the storage room next to the stage.

New shelving has been constructed for easier access to storage.

A trolley and shelving has been purpose built for the Carpet Bowls equipment.

Work is continuing to construct a small kitchenette behind the bar area in the Lamyman Room.

Cycle Storage Racks.

We received a grant from Lincolnshire County Council

Rural Gain for Cycle Storage Racks.

These were installed at the end of November 2014

and are available for use by visitors to the village hall

and for anyone catching the bus into town.

The Committee is now in the process of looking for funding towards the cost of refurbishing the toilet facilities.
